Rompetrol Rafinare, the company that operates the two refineries of the KMG International Group (Rompetrol), has budgeted an investment plan of over 66 million dollars for this year, according to data published by the company.
The amount comes after the almost 140 million dollars invested last year, especially in the Petromidia refinery. The largest refinery in Romania has planned investments of 61 million dollars, most of which will go towards the maintenance area.
So, in just two years, and despite all the fiscal challenges – solidarity tax, turnover tax, environmental provisions, etc., Petromidia has benefited from the support of the Kazakh shareholder, through investments of almost 200 million dollars. The massive investments come in the context in which the company budgeted a loss of about 24 million dollars in 2025, and ended 2024 with a net loss of 78 million dollars.
However, it seems that the financial challenges are not discouraging production, as the plan for this year involves processing 5.3 million tons of raw materials, of which approximately 5 million tons are crude oil alone. To achieve these results, the company announces that it will process approximately 15,000 tons per day, an increase compared to the previous year.
For 2025, the company has budgeted a product structure that shows that, among other things, 1.25 million tons of gasoline and 2.3 million tons of diesel will be released on the market. The Năvodari refinery also produces JET (jet fuel for which a production of 400 thousand tons is estimated), as well as polymers and propylene in the Petrochemical Division, and products such as bitumen, hexane, solvents are manufactured in Vega.
Returning to the investment plans for this year, almost 61 million are going to Petromidia. The main projects aim to replace static equipment in the refinery, which aims to “create operating conditions for the refinery at maximum processed crude oil capacity, ensuring efficient cooling of gaseous fractions transformed into gasoline, an improvement in the technological process”, as noted in one of the documents that will be submitted for approval at the General Meeting of Shareholders at the end of the month.
