Romgaz slightly increased its profit in the first quarter of 2026, amid decreasing production and revenues

The consolidated net profit recorded by the Romgaz Group in Q1 2026 was 973.16 million lei, higher by 2.33%, or 22.18 million lei, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data announced by the company.

Romgaz, the largest state-controlled natural gas producer in Romania, reported a slight increase in profit of 2.3% in the first three months of the year, on the back of a 10% lower turnover, to 2.13 billion lei, as a result of a 9.7% decrease in gas volumes delivered. Revenues from the sale of natural gas were lower by 12.53%, reaching 1.83 billion lei.

Electricity production decreased in Q1 2026 by 46.42% compared to Q1 2025, as a result of which the Romgaz Group obtained a turnover from this activity lower by 3.20%.

Revenues from storage services increased by 15.37% compared to those recorded in Q1 2025.

The degree of filling of storage warehouses as of March 31, 2026 was 23.73%. The reserved storage capacity as of April 1, 2026 was 84.76% of the available capacity.

As a structure of turnover, revenues from the sale of natural gas represent approximately 86% of the total turnover of Q1 2026, those from the sale of electricity approximately 5%, and revenues from storage services approximately 7%.

“For the first 3 months of 2026, the Romgaz Group planned investments worth 1,448,899 thousand lei and realized 995,784 thousand lei (non-IFRS values), which represents a percentage of 68.73% of the planned investments. Of the amount of 995,784 thousand lei invested during the first quarter, 710,237 thousand lei was allocated for the development of the Neptun Deep perimeter,” the three-month report shows.

National gas consumption was increasing in the first three months of the year, but Romgaz production decreased.

“The estimated national natural gas consumption for Q1 2026 was approx. 43.59 TWh, being approximately 5.4% higher than that recorded in Q1 2025.

The natural gas production recorded in the first quarter of 2026 was 1,235.237 million cubic meters. Compared to the natural gas production in the first quarter of 2025, the production recorded in Q1 2026 was 3.9% lower,” the company also shows.

The number of employees decreased by 2.7% in the last year, to 5,773 people.
