ENEVO signs 1 GWh battery purchase agreement with Sungrow to support Romania’s energy storage boom

Chinese manufacturer Sungrow and Romanian EPC service provider Enevo Group have signed an agreement to supply battery storage systems with a total capacity of 1 GWh. The project portfolio highlights Romania’s growing momentum, which is targeting an energy storage capacity of 5 GWh by the end of 2026, according to the trade press.

Romania’s energy storage market continues to climb the rankings of the most active countries, a fact confirmed today by the announcement that Sungrow and Enevo Group have signed an agreement to supply 1 GWh of energy storage systems across several projects in the country, according to the cited source.

The partnership will be carried out in two phases. The first phase comprises 440 MWh of storage capacity, contracted earlier this year and scheduled for completion by December 2026. The exact timetable for the second phase, when the remaining 560 MWh will be delivered, was not provided, although it is assumed to take place after 2026.

All projects will use Sungrow’s liquid-cooled PowerTitan 2.0 system, first launched in Europe in late 2024.

The agreement aligns with Romania’s broader effort to stabilize its electricity grid infrastructure. The country aims to install 5 GWh of energy storage by the end of 2026, supported by substantial financing mechanisms from the Ministry of Energy. Recent government tenders have allocated tranches of €150 million for stand-alone and co-located projects, alongside municipal initiatives.

For Enevo Group, an EPC provider already active in large-scale solar projects in Romania, the contract strengthens the existing relationship with Sungrow.

“Successful partnerships start with a shared vision, objectives and a clear understanding of the market evolution. Our collaboration with Sungrow started in the solar sector and has now developed into a broader strategic partnership,” said Radu Brașoveanu, CTO and co-founder of Enevo Group.

“We are now expanding this with our 1 GWh battery storage contract. Together, we are integrating storage systems more closely with renewable energy generation. At the same time, this collaboration supports Enevo’s goal to establish itself as an EPC contractor for large-scale battery storage projects in the region.”

The agreement also strengthens Sungrow’s presence in Eastern Europe.

“The trust of our partners forms the foundation of our continued growth,” added James Li, Vice President of Sungrow Europe, responsible for ESS (Energy Storage Systems). “We are delighted to work with Enevo Group on this pioneering 1 GWh project portfolio in Romania. Our team supports the projects in all phases – from design and delivery to commissioning. In this way, we ensure the long-term success of the projects and strengthen the energy resilience of our partners.”

ENEVO Group, the largest Romanian EPC contractor for renewable energy projects, recorded a turnover of 135 million euros last year, and this year it is expected to grow two and a half times, to 350 million euros, including on the back of international expansion. The company started the year as the contractor for the largest photovoltaic park currently under construction in Romania and one of the largest hybrid parks in Europe.
