Petrom reorients its investments: the share for renewables decreases, the share for the traditional oil and gas business increases

OMV Petrom, the largest oil and gas producer, is slightly changing its investment policy, increasing its focus on traditional business, according to financial data for 2025, presented today.

“Total gross investments of approximately 11 billion euros for the 2022-2030 strategy period are maintained, with the share of investments in the Transition to low and zero carbon emissions changing to approximately 25% (from approximately 5%) and increasing investments in Optimization of traditional activities and Regional development of natural gas,” the company says.

As such, the company has increased its hydrocarbon production target for 2030.

“Supported by the additional capital allocation and the agreement in principle with the Romanian state for the 15-year extension of the oil production agreements, we are revising our hydrocarbon production target for 2030 upwards to approximately 170 thousand boe/d (from 160 thousand boe/d).”

As such, “to reflect the dynamics of the energy transition, we are revising the Scope 1-3 greenhouse gas emission reduction targets: the intensity target is reduced to 10% from 20% in 2030 compared to 2019, and the absolute emissions target is withdrawn. We are maintaining both the Scope 1-2 absolute greenhouse gas emission reduction target of 30% in 2030 compared to 2019, and the methane intensity target of 0.2% by 2030.”

“Looking ahead, as energy security becomes increasingly important and hydrocarbon demand remains solid, we have adjusted several strategic targets in line with the expected market dynamics. We remain focused on the energy transition, adjusting our GHG targets in the context of these changes in the demand profile,” said Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.

OMV Petrom’s total investments were 7.8 billion lei in 2025, 9% more than in 2024, and the vast majority – almost 5.7 billion – went to the exploration and production segment.
