Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met today, at Victoria Palace, with a delegation formed by the German ambassador to Romania, Angela Ganninger, the head of the economic section of the German Embassy in Romania, Sandrina Köbinger, the president of E.ON Romania SA, Volker Raffel, and the general manager of E.ON Energie Romania SA, Claudia Griech, shows a press release from the Executive
The discussions aimed to streamline the verification and validation process by the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) of payment requests submitted by energy suppliers and increase the pace of payment to them of the amounts that represent the difference between energy acquisition costs and capped prices for electricity and natural gas, shows the press release.
According to the energy capping and compensation mechanism, these amounts were initially borne by suppliers, to be subsequently settled by the authorities.
Prime Minister Bolojan stated that measures are being taken at the Government level to streamline the procedures for validating payment requests and ensuring the funds necessary to settle outstanding amounts to energy suppliers, based on the price compensation mechanism.
The compensation and capping mechanism for final electricity prices was applied until July 1, 2025, and the one for capping final natural gas prices will be in force until March 31, 2026. In this context, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and representatives of E.ON. Romania also discussed aspects related to energy regulations, in view of the liberalization of natural gas prices starting with April 1, 2026, after the termination of the capping and compensation scheme for the final natural gas price.
E.ON representatives also discussed aspects related to the mechanisms necessary to ensure the correct functioning of the wholesale energy market.
Another topic discussed at today’s meeting at Victoria Palace referred to investments for the expansion and modernization of gas networks, given that Romania aims to increase production capacity.
The meeting at Victoria Palace, together with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, was also attended by the President of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE), George Niculescu, and the Secretary of State in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Dragoș Hotea.
