Hidroelectrica maintains the low price of electricity offered to households in January as well

Share

Hidroelectrica, the cheapest electricity supplier to the population with a standard offer at the moment, maintains the same offer in January.

Hidroelectrica published the offer for the population for January, and the price of active energy remained the same, namely 0.45 lei/kWh, so whoever wants to switch to this supplier next month can do so at the same price as before.

Including network tariffs and taxes, Hidroelectrica’s billing price therefore remains between 1.11 lei/kWh (price for consumption points located in the distribution area of Rețele Electrice), and 1.28 lei/kWh, price valid in the Oltenia Distribution area.

The final price in the offer is somewhat higher for most customers because, as of January 1, the transmission and distribution tariffs have been modified, which I wrote about earlier.

Hidroelectrica has exceeded the threshold of 1 million household and non-household customers on the supply market to the final consumer, according to a company announcement dated November 4.
2025, the worst year in Hidroelectrica’s history

Hidroelectrica’s net profit was 34% lower in the first nine months of 2025, falling to 2.3 billion lei, from 3.5 billion in the same period of the previous year, according to data presented by the company

The company’s revenue was only 6.7 billion lei, down 7% compared to the same period of 2024. The operating margin was 39%, down 30% compared to the same period of last year. The net margin was 35%, down 30% compared to the same period in 2024. The volume of energy sold decreased by 14%, to 10.1 TWh.

All this happened against the backdrop of a very weak electricity production, of only 8.47 TWh, down 23% compared to the first nine months of 2024, a year that was also not very good in terms of hydraulicity.

In fact, the company’s director, Bogdan Badea, said that “this year (2025-ed.) we will manage to reach the bleakest record in Hidroelectrica’s history, somewhere at 11 TWh, the driest year”, comparing this year’s production with that of the period in which the company entered insolvency.

The company purchased two and a half times more energy from the market (1.6 TWh compared to 0.67 TWh) to honor its sales contracts, including for the supply portfolio, where it recently reported that it had exceeded the threshold of one million customers, given that it has the most attractive price for end customers.

Hidroelectrica is the largest renewable energy producer in Romania, managing a portfolio of 188 hydroelectric plants with a total capacity of 6.4 GW, as well as the Crucea wind farm, with 108 MW installed.
