RenewAcad announces the signing of a financing agreement with UniCredit Bank for the development of the Petrila 1 and Petrila 2 energy storage projects, marking the first stage of an extensive investment program in the energy transition and revitalization of the industrial area of Petrila.

The Petrila 1 and Petrila 2 projects with a capacity of 20MWh integrate Prime liquid-cooled batteries, installed in specially designed halls, based on a technical concept patented by Monsson.

Compared to classic containerized systems, the solutions in halls are more energy efficient, take up less floor space, allow for better thermal management and offer superior flexibility in operation and subsequent expansion, the company says.

The investment is expected to be completed and connected to the grid in March 2026.

“For RenewAcad, Petrila is a concrete example of a just energy transition, combining investments in modern infrastructure with investments in people. In the next three years, we plan to invest over 15 million euros in the area, both in energy projects and in new professional training programs, different from those carried out so far. Petrila 1 and Petrila 2 represent the first concrete step in this direction,” said Sebastian Enache, Director of RenewAcad.

UniCredit Bank representatives emphasized the importance of this strategic partnership, highlighting the fact that the bank supports projects with real impact in the sustainable development of communities, in accelerating the transition to a green economy. As part of the RenewAcad Petrila project, Unicredit Bank provided financing worth 3.14 million euros, thus contributing to the implementation of modern energy infrastructure and the economic revitalization of the area.

In addition to these projects, RenewAcad will start a new strategic investment worth over 10 million euros in the same location in spring 2026. This development phase is estimated to create over 40 new jobs starting in 2027, significantly contributing to the economic revitalization of the Petrila area.

By investing in modern energy infrastructure, education and job creation, RenewAcad reaffirms its commitment to a functional, fair and future-oriented energy transition.
