The Romanian group Electromontaj has completed the installation of the STATCOM system at the Sibiu Sud transformer station, ahead of the contractual deadline, making the station the first in Romania to operate with 5 voltage levels
“The 400/220/110/20 kV Sibiu Sud power station marks a new premiere in the energy system: the STATCOM installation is now operational, at the disposal of the system dispatcher, after the successful completion of all works and the commissioning phase. The project was completed ahead of the deadline planned in the execution schedule, confirming the team’s ability to deliver complex solutions, safely and ahead of schedule,” Electromontaj said in a post on its LinkedIn page.
“With this installation, the Sibiu Sud substation becomes the first electrical transformer substation with 5 voltage levels, 400/220/110/37/20 kV, the STATCOM operating at the 37 kV level. This configuration brings increased flexibility in operation and contributes to the stability and quality of voltage in the transmission network, including in the context of the accelerated integration of renewable sources”, Electromontaj also shows.
STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) is a power electronics equipment used in power systems to control voltage and reactive power in transmission and distribution networks. The system contributes to voltage regulation, increasing network stability and integrating renewable sources.
“We are also investing in the voltage regulation area, another very important parameter at the SEN level. In the Bradu and Sibiu-Sud stations, for the first time in Romania, we are installing STATCOM-type installations, the most efficient in the world for reactive power regulation. These projects are now in the execution phase and we will continue with three other important nodes in the SEN, in the Gutinaş, Roșiori and Suceava stations,” said Bogdan Leu, project manager at Transelectrica, in the spring.
The Electromontaj Group is one of the strongest integrated structures in the energy sector in Romania and the region, with over 75 years of experience and a complete operational chain, from design and construction to equipment production and testing.
The projects developed by the Electromontaj Group include complex technical solutions, dedicated to both Romania’s energy infrastructure and international markets – Finland, Cyprus, Jordan, Poland, the Republic of Moldova – the company also having a 10-year strategic partnership with the operator Tennet in the Netherlands, which consolidates its status as an essential partner for the energy transition on a regional and global scale.
The Electromontaj Group reported a turnover of over 1 billion lei (approximately 203 million euros) in 2024, marking an increase of almost 15% compared to the previous year.
